1770 Davie Street (Muro)

Muro, formally The Berkeley Tower, is situated in a landmark location in Vancouver’s West End adjacent to English Bay Park at the confluence of Beach Avenue, Davie, and Denman Streets.

Originally constructed in 1958, this high-rise apartment building underwent an extensive renovation including seismic, life safety, and envelope upgrades, new building systems, and a comprehensive renovation of building interiors. Enlarging the corner windows was a major part of the renovation, enabling expansive views of the spectacular surroundings, even while seated, and creating natural light-filled units with a generous sense of openness. A shared roof deck with a firebowl and communal barbecue provide opportunities for tenants to socialize.

A new commercial infill building, located on the former surface parking lot, fills the gap in the Davie streetwall and shapes a tranquil courtyard entrance experience for residents.

A colourful mural, created by Douglas Coupland, reflects the neighbourhood’s energy and character.
